Mt. Healthy City School District proudly congratulates our outstanding Choir Director, Mr. Everett Moore, as Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020. This veteran teacher is more than just any teacher or choir director as he wears many hats. He is a role model for all of our students with his many connections across our fine city and his long history of community outreach. He has a wealth of experience through his own accomplishments, including writing and producing his own music that has been performed by Mt. Healthy High School students. Under his direction, the Mt. Healthy Choir has performed all over Cincinnati, has been featured on FOX 19 during the Christmas holiday, and has held exceptional marks in Ohio Music Educators Association competitions over the years. Mr. Moore works tirelessly to inspire, motivate, and develop the musical talent of our students in the district. Every December, students bring holiday carols to the halls of Mt. Healthy Jr/Sr High School, and they deliver singing telegrams to teachers for Valentine’s Day. He takes his students and their beautiful voices on the road singing for several of the retirement and nursing homes in the area, including Mt. Healthy Christian Village. In past years, the choir has performed at several area churches in honor of Black History Month.
Mr. Moore’s passion for teaching vocal music is evident in his students’ level of performance as well as their consideration of him. So many of those who have graduated reflect on the many areas that he taught them, even extending far beyond music. Mr. Moore has a strong commitment to equity among his students in addition to helping them make positive choices so they may continue throughout their lives. He works closely with his students to help them understand the value of music in their lives as well as the importance of making positive life choices. His care for students extends beyond the classroom as he may often be seen staying later to assisting students for preparation for college auditions or helping those who may not have the proper attire for concerts. He has taught many a young man how to tie their ties throughout the years. He attends students’ other concerts and extracurricular activities, especially those who perform on a larger stage like Cincinnati Youth Choir.“He is one of the most appreciated teachers in the district and also one of the best dressed. Students often comment on what an impact he has made in their lives,” explained Ms. Donna Pickard, a Jr/Sr High School Counselor.
