The Mt. Healthy City School District continues to place strong emphasis on a "Safe
and Drug Free" learning environment for its students, staff,
parents and community. To this end, the district has a number
of programs and activities to ensure safety for all. Here is
a list of the many programs and activities we have in place to
create a safe and drug free environment in which all students
can experience positive learning.
Advisor-Advisee
Program
Students meet regularly, in small groups, with a caring adult.
This program is researched based and addresses one of the factors
of success by placing a caring adult in thelife of a student.
Discussions can center around school, family or community issues.

Serve & Learn
Secondary program that provides opportunities for students to
make connections with the immediate community through service
oriented projects. Supportive research shows a positive connection
with developing a safe and positive environment in which to learn
and live. Program has received several regional and state awards.

Elementary Counseling
Program
"Boys & Girls About Divorce" support group for
students coping with divorced or separated parents. "Social
Skill Groups" for students needing some increased awareness
of acceptable social behavior. "Kid's Connection" support
group for students who may be dealing with a caregiver afflicted
with a drug or alcohol problem "Newcomer's Club" program
to help students adjust to their new environment. "Developmental
Classroom Education" classroom guidance program. (Parents
permission required.)

Classroom Management/Teaching
Mentor Program
Both programs are focused on providing the new and/or experienced
teacher with skills dealing with classroom management.

Alternative School
Program designed for students having difficulties adjusting to
a traditional school setting, or who are experiencing behavior
problems which may be solved through an alternative school setting.
Second year for Mt. Healthy, we have increased our space from
15 to 18 seats for the current year.

PRIDE Youth Programs
Program encourages youth participation in safe and drug free
activities by providing programming that supports that concept.

Safe Schools Tipline
A toll-free anonymous tip line, 1-866-TIPLINE (847-5463). Mt.
Healthy was one of the first school districts in the state to
implement this program during the 1997-98 school year. Currently,
the Tipline is a service provided through K-9 Resources.

Instructional Specialist
Assists classroom teachers in dealing with at-risk students.
Also supports special needs program and deals with staff development
focusing on classroom management skills.

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse
Resistance Program)
A highly acclaimed program that gives
kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs
or violence. The D.A.R.E. program is offered at each elementary
for fifth graders.
School Resource
Officers
Uniformed local police officers are
in residence at our high school and middle schools. Officers
provide support for staff and students in dealing with issues
and provide support upon request. The serivice has been present
since the 1999-2000 school year.

Local Emergency
Response (Police and Fire)
As per senate bill 1, districts are
to develop school safety plans and work collaboratively with
local agencies to establish district and individual building
level plans.

Security Cameras
& Lighting
Plans are underway to increase outside
security lighting at several buildings. Additionally, some buildings
will also be getting security cameras that will monitor interior
and exterior areas of our buildings.

Social Skills Programs
Development and implementation of
a personalized social skills program at the elementary level.
Current programs are "Stars Program" at Jane Hoop and
New Burlington, "Be a Class Act" at Greener and "PAVE"
(People Against Violent Environments), a conflict management
social skills program at Frost.

Peer Mediation Programs
An elementary program where students
incorporate non-violent problem solving techniques to resolve
conflicts by talking instead of arguing or fighting. A conflict
manager helps individuals talk about their problems without taking
sides. Currently in place at Frost Elementary.

Pride Survey/Coalition
for a Drug Free Greater Cincinnati
Countywide yearly survey in grades
7-12 that focuses on existing conditions within schools and communities
related to a safe and drug free environment for our schools community.
Information gathered can be utilized for goal setting by the
district and the community to address protective factors present
in the school and community.

Crisis Invervention
Team
Building based teams that collaborate
and assist in dealing with special situations which may occur
within a school. Team members also function as support for other
buildings as needed.

Safe Riders Program
An elementary program focusing on
developing and promoting positive behaviors while riding the
bus. Students receive recognition for exhibiting appropriate
behaviors. Parents also receive letters of recognition regarding
the positive behaviors of their children.

Prom Promise
High School program geared toward
students attending the junior-senior prom. Students are given
information and make a promise to act responsibly and not consume
alcohol or other drugs (legal or illegal) that may impair their
judgment.

Planners
High school and middle schools use
planners as a means of control of student passes during the school
day. Planners help monitor a student's presence within the building.

High School Project
Hope
An intensive program for selected
students who are experiencing difficulty in a school setting.
Program objective is to give students coping skills. Program
managed through the district's instructional specialist.

that may result in an out-of-school suspension.
