2001
Joyce
and Mike Hauer.
Mrs. Hauer graduated in 1963 and taught at New Burlington Elementary
for 15 years. Mr. Hauer graduated in 1961 and , as the owner
of Jess Hauer Masonry Inc., lent his building expertise to our
district many times.
2002
Diana
Klenk,
a 1967 graduate who taught for 30 years at Frost Elementary and
has been active in the Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church. She
retired in 2001.
2003
Sylvia
Lawson
and Ralph Stricker. Ms. Lawson graduated in 1958 and has
taught at Duvall Center for 16 years and was active in the athletic
boosters for 14 years. Mr. Stricker graduated in 1946 and, as
owner of Stricker's Grove, he shared his facilities with fellow
alumni to host reunions.
2004
Mark
Hensler,
a 1980 graduate of Mt. Healthy, earned his Bachelor of Music
Education degree from Morehead State University in 1984, and
his Master of Business Administration from Miami University in
2004. He has been elected President of the Ohio Music Educators
Association, and will serve a 6-year term from 2004-2010. Mr.
Hensler is in his 21st year as a music educator in Northwest
Local Schools, is a soloist with the Cincinnati Brass Band, Marcus
Neiman, the Sounds of Sousa Band and Director of the Ohio Military
Band.
2005
Betty
Schoenlaub Hutzel,
a 1946 Mt. Healthy graduate, had a rich history of giving to
the community and beyond. When Hurricane Katrina ravaged New
Orleans, she quickly jumped to action by making beautiful quilts
for its victims. She generously volunteers her time to Cincinnati
Veterans Hospital, Mary Magdalene Shelter in Over-the-Rhine and
Good Samaratin Hospital.
Mrs. Hutzel was a tax commissioner for the City of Mt. Healthy
for 14 years before retiring in 1995. She served as secretary-treasurer
for the Mt. Healthy Business Association and served on a committee
to secure government financing for street and storm sewer improvements
on Perry Street. She and her husband Dennis Hutzel, also a lifelong
resident, help make the community safer by participating in the
local neighborhood crime watch and action group.
2006
Ray
Stoehr,
a 1966 graduate, was honored in February as Mt. Healthys
2006 Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Stoehr was a four-sport athlete,
exceling in football, basketball, baseball and wrestling. Mr.
Stoehrs love of sports inspired him to help a struggling
Owls athletics program succeed. In 1991, he founded the districts
Night Owls Bingo, breathing new life into the program by supplying
it with the funds to buy uniforms, upgrade equipment and award
college scholarships. While working on the bingo project, Mr.
Stoehr coached reserve soccer and baseball in the district.Long
after his own children graduated from the district, Mr. Stoehr
remained active as an athletic booster and served as the groups
president.
2007
Brothers
Craig and Ken Keller were selected as the
2007 Alumni of the Year. Craig, a 1981 graduate, and Ken, a 1985
graduate, were honored at the schools Celebration of
Excellence, an annual tribute to its outstanding academic students.
Craig has owned Express Graphics in Mt. Healthy since 1985. His
brother Ken joined the family business and was promoted to sales
in 1989.
Craig played baseball and soccer for Mt. Healthy and was an All-League
and All-City soccer player his senior year. He played goalkeeper
in college for Xavier University, Wright State and Marion College.
After college, he was an assistant coach and coach of Mt. Healthys
soccer team from 1986-1990, taking the team to two league championships,
a first in the schools history. He was named Coach of the
Year in 1990.
Ken was a tight end and field goal kicker for the Owls and attended
Wright State University.
2008
Vierling
Blum, a 54-year member of the Wesley Werner #513 Post of the
American Legion, is the 2008 Alumnus of the Year. He was honored
at the high schools Celebration of Excellence in May, where
he was awarded a plaque. His bio and picture will soon grace
the halls of the high school, along with other recipients.
Mr. Blum, a 1939 Mt. Healthy graduate, was an avid musician.
He played in the Mt. Healthy Booster Band during the 1930s, the
Army-Navy Band and the Norwood Civic Association Band for five
years. He formed in 1955 the Drum & Bugle Corp for the Legion
and directed the group for three years. Mr. Vierling, a World
War II veteran, worked for Procter & Gambe for 35 years before
retiring. He was involved in numerous local organizations, and
he and his wife Marian have been married 58 years. Together they
have four children and four grandchildren.

Nominations
The Mt. Healthy High School Alumni Association is accepting nominations
for the Alumnus-Of-The Year award. Candidates must be nominated
in writing and received by the selection committee no later than
Feb. 25, 2010. Include name, address, phone, year of graduation
from Mt. Healthy High School, accomplishments and a summary of
the candidates background as a positive role model for society.
Also include the name and contact information of the individual
making the nomination. The award will be given in January. Mail
