Mt. Healthy Welcomes New High School Principal

A new face will be highly visible in the halls of Mt. Healthy High School come August 1. Superintendent Dr. Reva Cosby and Mt. Healthy City Schools Board of Education introduced Mr. Thomas Hill as the new high school principal on Monday, May 15.  He was chosen above several other candidates due to his educational leadership experience as well as familiarity in working in an urban school setting and a strong connection to the students.

Hill hails from Michigan where he has been a school administrator more than 12 years. His most recent position was High School Principal at Ecorse High School in Ecorse, Michigan. Prior to that, he was the Superintendent of Bridgeport-Spaulding Schools in Bridgeport, Michigan. Furthermore, he began his career in education as a School to Work Coordinator for Westwood Community Schools in Inkster, Michigan. In addition to his extensive experience in education, Hill has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education from Wayne State College of Education, and a Specialist in Education from Eastern Michigan University.

Hill states among his goals as a high school principal that collaboration with colleagues, shaping a vision for academic success, and promoting understanding and appreciation of the community’s diverse resources are necessary elements to the school’s success. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge regarding data-driven instruction as well as programs targeted toward motivation and at-risk students.  In addition, he has given lectures and presented “Establishing High Expectations in Urban Schools” and “Principal’s Role in Changing the Climate and Culture in Schools”.

Hill plans to create a world-class educational community which serves as a model that others aspire to recreate. “I look forward to working with the Mt. Healthy High School team to continue building upon efforts that have already been developed to educate all students and equip them with the skills and abilities they will need in order to be successful in life,” Hill explained. He has been impressed with the staff at Mt. Healthy High School for their enthusiasm and dedication to student success and is eager to begin his term as high school principal. “Being a part of the Mt. Healthy team will provide a great opportunity for me to support all students in their pursuit of excellence in the classroom and beyond.”

Mt. Healthy City Schools Superintendent Dr. Reva Cosby described Hill as being student-focused while also attentive to the importance of the student’s success both inside and outside the classroom through academic programs and extracurricular activities that promote student involvement. She showed her enthusiasm by stating “Hill brings to Mt. Healthy High School a passion for the students’ success in addition to his personal involvement in their drive, learning opportunities, and abilities to grow and mature.”
